I love New Orleans. I mean, I don’t just love it, I looooooove it. Not a week goes by that Jason and I don’t talk about when our next trip will be, and every time we do go down to the Big Easy, we come back making plans to pack up and move down there. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Texas girl born and bred, I love my Dallas roots, but there’s something so magical about New Orleans. The music is the best in the world, the food is to die for, the architecture is beautiful, and there’s always something fun and exciting to do. It’s also a photographer’s dream city – everywhere you look is a photo op, and it’s virtually impossible to run out of stunning backdrops for portraits and weddings and environmental shots. Any chance I get to take photos in New Orleans, I absolutely jump on, so I was beyond thrilled when Annie and Chris invited me to photograph their NOLA wedding earlier this year. Annie took me under her wing and taught me some very valuable Big Easy staples – the to-go cup, the St. Charles street car, Magazine Street, the glorious Muriel’s Restaurant, and my absolute favorite wedding tradition of all time – the Second Line. I loved it so much, I decided to do it at my own wedding! I will forever be grateful to Annie and Chris for showing me a side to the Crescent City that I never knew existed. Here are a few (okay, a LOT!) of my favorites from their wedding day:

I’m happy to announce that I will be having another encore of my Mind Your Business workshop, geared towards small business owners (especially photographers) who are in need of some help getting their business on track. This workshop is chock full of real, practical advice that you can integrate from Day One to help you book more clients, book better clients, and book them at the prices you want.  I will help you get legal, get your finances and taxes in order, show you multiple ways to keep costs and taxes low so you keep more of what you earn, and build packages and prices that will make your profit margin skyrocket and be far more enticing to brides.  We’ll work together to identify your target market and discover ways to specialize your marketing and advertising so that you are getting your name out to the type of brides you want to book.  I’ll tell you how you can adjust your shooting style to make your images more enticing to the top blogs and magazines, and what you need to be doing (and NOT doing) to get yourself published.  We’ll look at real life examples of photographer success stories and failures, and what you can do to integrate the lessons learned from those stories into your business (and avoid the pitfalls that put people out of business!).  We’ll talk about Search Engine Optimization and what I did to get myself to the #1 spot on Google for my key search terms, and how you can get there too.  We’ll discuss when and if you should go full time, and how to get there as quickly and smartly as possible.  I’ll share all of my tips for album design and sales and how I’m able to sell big, beautiful albums (and why you should, too).  And, most importantly, we’ll talk about how to make money doing what you love!

A few quotes from attendees of previous workshops..

“I was glad to hear you say that yes you love photography, but you’re in it to make money…..I was feeling guilty about having those thoughts!”

“I learned so much from your workshop!!  I have started meeting every 2 weeks with several other photographers in my area…which has proved to be priceless.. I have booked about 8 shoots simply from their referrals.  So again, Thanks you have transformed my business!”

“Thank you so much again for sharing all your wonderful information at your workshop and for being so approachable.   A lot of your insight and knowledge is going to help my work flow tremendously!”

“The workshop yesterday was insane, my brain hurts from all that info!!!  I have been to so many workshops and this is the only one that gave me my moneys worth.  Im so sick of hearing people tell me to be myself and charge what Im worth but not telling me how to actually DO that, and you did!  Thanks so much for being completely real and genuine and open with your information.  I cant thank you enough!!!”

“Thanks so much! Your workshop is one of the most helpful ones I have been to. You were so organized and gave great information. Thanks for being so open and informative. It was great!”

“What an amazing workshop!!!! I loved it and got great information.  It was totally worth every penny!  Thank you for offering it!”

“Thank you for putting on the workshop yesterday.  You have definitely have given me a lot good info!”

“I talked to my friend last night after she got home from your workshop – she was RAVING about you and couldn’t stop talking about how much she got out of it.  She said she felt so inspired, motivated, and ready to take her biz to the next level…all because of your encouragement!”

“You’re amazing. Today was over the top, information overload. I know a ton of photographers that say they’ll reveal everything, be absolutely transparent with others …and it’s a complete gimmick. The workshop ends up being about a whole lotta nothing. You are the real deal, sista! THANK YOU for your absolute honesty. I appreciate that you held nothing back and shared your heart about your LIFE as a photographer. My brain is completely fried and I don’t know if I’ve EVER taken notes quite like that before, but the EXPERIENCE was fabulous and I had a great time. I can’t wait to talk to you again…I’m sure I’ll have questions once I start processing all the info you gave us. “

I am so completely confident that you will walk away from this workshop satisfied with your investment that I will offer a 100% unconditional satisfaction guarantee.  That means there is zero risk – come to the workshop prepared to learn and ask questions, and if you don’t feel like you are walking away with the tools you need to transform your business and make more money, then just say the word and I will refund your registration fee.  In addition, after the workshop ends there will be an optional dinner where all attendees can come and bring their portfolio and/or pricing and I will review them personally to give you my feedback on how to improve.

The workshop will be held from 8 AM to 6 PM on Sunday, September 18th at the NYLO Hotel in Plano.  The price for the workshop will be $550 if you register before September 1, and $600 if you register after September 1. For more information on the workshop, click here, and to sign up for the workshop, click here.  I look forward to seeing you all there!

Lindsey is the type of bride I live for: head over heels in love, overjoyed to be getting married, practically glowing with excitement and happiness, and wanting everyone around her to be as blissfully happy as she is. You just can’t be around Lindsey without feeling that infectious joy yourself, which makes photographing her a super fun experience. Not to mention that she is a stunner! I just love her gorgeous bone structure, her face is so unique and defined and every time I look at her I think she belongs in a high fashion magazine is some brilliant piece of haute couture. Here are some of my favorites from her bridal session at George Bush Library in College Station:

Today is a Twofer Tuesday! Not only do I have some photos of an absolutely stunning bride to show you, but I’ve also uploaded a new info page all about bridal sessions. I’ve been seeing a lot of brides making the same mistakes or asking the same questions, so I decided that it was about time to put my experience shooting bridals down in print. You can check out the new Preparing for Your Bridal Session page under the “For Brides & Grooms” menu above, or by clicking here.

For now, here are some of my favorites from the lovely Melissa’s bridal session at Arlington Hall and Lee Park in the Turtle Creek area of downtown Dallas!

Generally when you see a couple this attractive, you just assume they must have some major flaw, some chink in their perfect armor. Maybe they’re snobby, or not very nice, or not very smart, or not very interesting. This couldn’t be further from the truth with Jessica and Charlie. To an outsider, they seem to have it all together. They are warm, nice, loving people who come from two joyful families that seemed to be thrilled to see them married, they have awesome, supportive friends who partied the whole night long, and of course they’ve got that whole Aggie thing going for them, too! I kept catching myself grinning at this wedding, unable to resist the contagious joy from all the fun and super-nice people I was surrounded by. This is the kind of wedding I live to shoot – two genuinely good people surrounded by loving family and friends, celebrating their love without a care in the world. Here are some of my favorite photographs from their wedding at Villa Antonia in Austin Texas:

Emily Porter (now Oberlander!) is a good friend of mine and fellow photographer from little ol’ West Virginia, where she is dominating the wedding photography industry. I was so honored to be able to photograph her bridal session recently at one of my favorite venues, the gorgeous NYLO Hotel in Plano. The NYLO is super friendly towards photographers and photoshoots and has a very low , which is so rare and hard to find, so I love shooting there as much as possible! It’s also a great place to stay, if you’re visiting the area – the food is phenomenal, the beds are very comfy, and their pool scene is always rocking on the weekends. It’s hands down my favorite hotel chain! The quirky and modern decor there completely fit Emily’s unique style and her inner sass. Here are a few of my favorites from her session:

Melissa and Philip are pretty much the embodiment of my ideal clients.  They are both gorgeous to look at, incredibly nice, warm, funny, easy to be around, they both have classic and sophisticated style, and most important of all, they are head over heels in love with each other.  There’s a joy that radiates from them when they look at each other, and a feeling of love that is so strong it’s nearly tangible when they’re in each others’ arms.  They’re also two of the friendliest people I know, and they have made me feel like an old friend since the day I met them.  Publishing this session is bittersweet for me, because it means my time photographing them has come to an end, but luckily I still have plenty more photos of these two hot lovebirds to publish here!  For now, here’s a look at some of my favorites from their Day After Session at White Rock Lake in Dallas:
