I wasn’t sure what to expect from Julie & Colin’s wedding in Odessa. I’d never been to the Midland-Odessa area, which is famous for football (the book, movie, and TV show Friday Night Lights are all based on Odessa high school football) oil, and being the hometown of former President George W. Bush. All in all, Odessa is the epitome of the archetypical west Texas town, and even though as a Texas native myself I know better than to believe all the silly stereotypes, I have to admit that as Jena and I drove past the miles and miles of flat country land surrounded by windmills, oil rigs, and deserted buildings, I began to wonder what kind of wedding I was going to experience. Luckily, Midland-Odessa’s oil heritage ensures that there is definitely a culture of class and sophistication in these small towns, and Julie and Colin’s wedding was as sophisticated and beautiful as any you might find here in the “big city” of Dallas.
